In 2019, WBA published the Captive Network Portal Standards white paper which analyses captive portal behaviour across operating systems, use cases for NGH/Passpoint ® and identifies a set of recommendations for future features to standardize the way Captive Portals are utilized.

The Captivation and Onboarding Strategies project focuses on improving the user experience of “captivation” and how end-users engage with captive portals via Passpoint®; provides recommendations on technical and business challenges; and outlines the role of captive portals for interconnecting networks in the Federated Environment.
