NGH networks have seen major advances in the last few years, with several deployments across the world by major carriers. However, a set of shortcomings were identified that, once resolved, will allow for continuous scalability of the number of deployments.

This project aims to study the user experience journey while attached to an NGH network and represents a critical step to guarantee a successful service delivery. As a result, downloading profiles to HS2.0 / Passpoint® enabled devices plays a key role in this process.

Besides, it will build on top of running work with the NGH Provisioning Standardization & Trial that has been studying and trialing over the last two years how to allow for automatic profile authentication when connecting to a Passpoint® network, without previously having to download the profile.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Business objectives

  • Raise the confidence in deploying outstanding Wi-Fi networks that due to customer requirements must leverage Captive Portal implementations
  • Address key opportunities which normalize industry approach and best practices, related to device association elements such as Roaming Consortium OI, Realms and Domain names., for optimal Quality of Experience

Target Outcomes

  • Identify main use cases for profile delivery and onboarding NGH Networks
  • Examine key user journey flow within different operating systems
  • Identify the specifics related to each HS2.0 association element, such as:a. Client profile information best practicesb. AP / WLC side minimum information

    c. ANQP / AP Beacon

    d. Inclusion of hierarchical ID information

    e. Friendly Name, realms, WBA ID, PLMN IDs, 3GPP NAI realm definitions

  • Provide recommendations for the future developments
