29 JUNE 2017. MADRID – Fon, the world’s leading carrier WiFi provider, has just revealed its latest advancement: the Enhanced Connectivity Solution. Using this intelligent network selection technology, Fon enables CSPs to deliver subscribers an always-best-connected WiFi experience through seamless connectivity to the best available networks. Specifically, it ensures that CSPs get the most from WiFi strategies such as WiFi-First, WiFi Calling, and especially Offloading, given its potential to reduce costs by moving traffic from cellular to WiFi networks.

Fon has developed the Enhanced Connectivity Solution based on insights gained over more than a decade of handling billions of WiFi connections to the world’s largest carrier WiFi network, built in collaboration with 25 leading operators worldwide. The solution consists of two key components, supported by a specialized professional services offer, helping CSPs to get the most out of their WiFi efforts.

At its core is the new and ever-evolving Quality of Experience (QoE) Manager, which identifies the best available WiFi network in range by scanning and assigning each WiFi network a real-time quality rating. This rating is enhanced by an advanced algorithm based on big data, that considers factors such as radio interface measurements, historical connection performance, and even device context (e.g. movement patterns and network density).

Once the best WiFi network is identified, the Connection Manager, available through a mobile software development kit (SDK) or branded app, seamlessly establishes a connection to the selected WiFi network. In the case of poor WiFi quality, the user remains connected to cellular.

In addition to the technology, Fon’s team of experts have developed specific services to help CSPs optimize their network, pinpoint low performance WiFi access points, and even monitor WiFi roaming partner networks that affect their outbound traffic. Fon generates analytics and strategic reports to give CSPs the insights they need to get the most from their network and offer the best user connectivity experience possible.

Farfán continued, “Preliminary internal tests show that Fon’ Enhanced Connectivity Solution reduces packet loss and disruption time for devices in motion anywhere between 20% up to 50%.” When users are on the move and their devices are being handed over from WiFi to WiFi, some data packets are normally lost. This increases latency, but also provokes a host of common frustrations such as broken up voice quality issues, and missing frames when streaming videos. Fon’s Enhanced Connectivity Solution makes this handover almost imperceptible to users, ensuring that CSPs can offer a better user connectivity experience to their
subscribers.
