The WBA is currently gearing up to welcome members to its second working session of 2014, taking place on June 4-6 in the vibrant city of Tokyo. This focused 3-day assembly, co-hosted by NTT DOCOMO, will bring together the Alliance membership from across the wireless ecosystem to work on a variety of WBA initiatives, as well as review other projects that are being developed within the Wi-Fi industry.
Key areas of discussion will include:
NGH Trial Phase 3
- Introducing NGH Trial Phase 3 focusing on using Passpoint Release 2 certified equipment
Interoperability Compliancy Program (ICP)
- Reviewing the success of the WBA Interoperability Compliance Program and its evolution to deliver a set of requirements for hub providers
Marketing Workgroup Discussions
- A review of Marketing activities for the first half of the year and Marketing plans for the second half of 2014, particularly around the Wi-Fi Global Congress San Francisco
Roaming Enhancements
- An update on this initiative following the joint work of WBA, GSMA and also CableLabs on Wi-Fi roaming and Wi-Fi Offload, and the recommendations that have been defined as a result

Device Compliancy Testing Program
- Plans to implement an end-to-end ecosystem Compliancy Testing Program to accelerate the growth and adoption of NGH and Carrier Wi-Fi with a focus on the end user experience
Also being announced at the Tokyo session will be the winners of the WBA Internal Recognition Awards, designed to reward those who have made significant contributions to WBA projects over the past 12 months. The three categories are:
- Working-group Leadership award (for work-group chairs)
- Project Leadership awards (for project leads)
- Contributor award (open to all members that did an outstanding contribution)
