Today, WBA has released its 2012 Wi-Fi Industry Report following last year’s first publishing of the first Global Industry Report on Global Trends in Public Wi-Fi.
There are real challenges for the Telco industry that need to be met for Wi-Fi to realize its potential, particularly around standards. Standards are highly important for enabling operators to leverage the Wi-Fi roaming opportunity. So, the industry must face this challenge head on by working together to define Wi-Fi roaming interoperability standards and ensure a seamless, cellular-like Wi-Fi experience for end users. At the same time, operators need to collaborate to increase the number of Wi-Fi roaming agreements and decide how to offer Wi-Fi roaming as part of their overall data roaming offering.
Highlighting the industry challenges is one part of the WBA’s Wi-Fi Industry Report: Global Trends in Public Wi-Fi. The WBA’s Wi-Fi Industry Report in conjunction with Informa Telecoms and Media is based on a survey of 386 respondents from the Wi-Fi eco-system, the largest proportion being integrated operators.
Find out what strategies are in play and what plans are being made in the Wi-Fi eco-system leading into 2013.
