At the 2015 Wi-Fi Industry Awards, the WBA Chairman Award – Operator Category was definitely one of the tighter races in recent memory.
This particular award differs from others in that only WBA members can be nominated, and the candidates are nominated by their fellow WBA members. This year, the impressive crop of nominees included AT&T, Boingo Wireless, BT, Fon, and Orange. When the dust settled, it was AT&T that came out on top, as voted by the WBA’s Board of Directors.
“AT&T was very honored to receive this award, for several reasons,” said Melody Eclavea, Director of Interconnect Agreements at AT&T.
“Firstly, the fact that the membership selects the nominees based on their contribution to the WBA is a huge honor. Secondly, our team at AT&T is working hard to expand and improve Wi-Fi Roaming for our customers. As such, we’re very passionate supporters of the WBA and its efforts, and to be recognized for this is a great feeling.”
AT&T has been an active member of the WBA for several years, and in fact, JR Wilson, the Vice-President of Partnerships & Alliances at AT&T, has been the WBA’s Chairman for the last 3 years. Beyond their many contributions to the organization over the years, AT&T is poised to be a major player in the WBA’s recently-unveiled Vision 2020 initiative.
“There’s never been a more exciting time to be a part of the WBA, as we embark upon the Vision 2020 journey together,” said Eclavea.
“Next-gen Wi-Fi is something that’s near and dear to our hearts at AT&T, and we have a big focus on the Internet of Things and how Wi-Fi will play a role in this. We look forward to engaging in these work areas and helping the WBA fulfill its goals in terms of Vision 2020.”
