The evening of the 2015 WBA Wi-Fi Industry Awards was a very good one for Ruckus Wireless, as the California-based company took home two trophies: Best Wi-Fi Enabled Consumer Electronics Device and/or Service (for Hotspot 2.0 Release 2), and the WBA Chairman Award – Technology Partner Category.
A long-standing member of the Wireless Broadband Alliance, Ruckus has played a significant role in many of the WBA’s initiatives and endeavors, and is a very significant player in the ecosystem. With Hotspot 2.0 Release 2, Ruckus has provided a safe, secure, and above all else, easy way to enable users to automatically connect to Wi-Fi networks while on the move – specifically in the cities of San Jose and San Francisco.
“The big thing that we did with the cities of San Francisco and San Jose was enable their public access Wi-Fi services with Hotspot 2.0, which began in the summer of 2014,” said Dave Wright, Advanced Technologist at Ruckus.
“With the WBA taking a strong stance on Smart Cities with its Vision 2020 initiative, as well as the formation of the Connected City Advisory Board, we feel that Hotspot 2.0 is a very natural technology to tie into municipal access in terms of public access, and in regards to city services such as police departments, fire departments, and libraries, to name a few.”
Hotspot 2.0 Release 2 introduces several new features, including the option to sign up online and hotspot notifications. The release was in development for approximately six months, and it’s clear that it was time was well spent.
“Ruckus is very pleased to be recognized by the judges for this award, and we feel that it reflects the leadership that we’ve shown as a company in regards to Hotspot 2.0,” said Wright.
“We’re also grateful for all the people within Ruckus who made this happen – from the developers and field people, to the individuals who are active within the WBA.”
Ruckus was also recognized with the WBA Chairman Award in the Technology Partner category. This prestigious award is voted on by the WBA’s Board of Directors, and recognizes the contribution of members to the WBA’s work-areas and initiatives.
“We were truly honored to be recognized with the Chairman’s Award in the Technology Partner category,” said Wright.
“We’re very grateful to be recognized by our peers, and to be a part of the WBA. We plan to continue pushing forward with the WBA on a number of projects, and we’re looking forward to not only maintaining our overall involvement, but increasing it as well.”
