Allied Telesis is pleased to announce that its advanced Wi-Fi 6 Access Points (AT-TQ6702 GEN2 and AT-TQ6602 GEN2) have been proven to interoperate with OpenRoaming platform of Tokyo Metropolitan Government(TMG) with the help of Tokyo Metropolitan Hospital Authority for aiming to realize “Tsunagaru Tokyo,” which is promoted by TGM Bureau of Digital Services. Also, three Tokyo Metropolitan Hospitals adopted Allied-Telesis Wi-Fi 6 Access Points (APs), and secure seamless public Wi-Fi through OpenRoaming is planned to provide at these hospitals.
TGM adopts highly secure and convenient seamless OpenRoaming platform public Wi-Fi
TMG has formulated policy of “Tsunagaru Tokyo” (*1) to ensure that Tokyo residents enjoy a high quality of life through the power of digital technology. As part of this policy, it is promoting development of public Wi-Fi. In promoting this initiative, TMG Bureau of Digital Services faced issues of security and convenience with conventional free Wi-Fi, such as information leaks due to unencrypted communications and setting up IDs for each facility. Therefore, the bureau turned its attention to OpenRoaming, which ensures a high level of security and is highly convenient, allowing automatic connection to Wi-Fi using a single ID, and the Wi-Fi environment is being promoted.
In addition, policy of Tsunagaru Tokyo has planned that secure seamless public Wi-Fi through OpenRoaming is installed in approximately 1,300 locations (cultural facilities such as libraries and museums, sports facilities, hospitals and welfare facilities, schools, airports, stations and so on) by the end of 2025.
Allied-Telesis verified interoperability with OpenRoaming network of TGM with the help of Tokyo Metropolitan Hospital Authority
Last year, we announced that four of our APs (AT-TQ6702 GEN2, AT-TQ6602 GEN2, AT-TQm6702 GEN2 and AT-TQm6602 GEN2) supported OpenRoaming. These products support Passpoint and are also certified by Wi-Fi Alliance (*2).
This time, AT-TQ6702 GEN2 and AT-TQ6602 GEN2 were verified the interoperability with OpenRoaming platform of TGM with the help of Tokyo Metropolitan Hospital Authority. The tests showed that users could use OpenRoaming to connect successfully and securely to the Allied Telesis APs.
In addition, three Tokyo Metropolitan Hospitals adopted Allied-Telesis APs, and secure seamless public Wi-Fi through OpenRoaming will be provided at these hospitals as a service for patients.
About the APs
