China Telecom and WBA will strengthen WiFi deployment and applications in industries

Hong Kong – 11 June, 2015 – China Telecom, The world’s largest fixed-line and wireline broadband operator with 141 million Access lines in service & 108 million wireline broadband subscribers respectively, is announcing its success of bidding board member of WBA, Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), the WiFi industry organization to secure global deployment of user experience friendly Wi-Fi service and its application to other industry sectors.

China Telecom has become the member of WBA in 2011 and has done a lot to facilitate WiFi roaming between operators, and its large-scale hotspot coverage helps address increasing user demand for Wi-Fi access in China, which has seen the largest growth in WiFi year over year from megapolis to remote towns.

“China Telecom’s rapid and widespread deployment of Wi-Fi is nothing short of impressive,” said Shrikant Shenwai, CEO for Wireless Broadband Alliance. “What’s more, their extensive network footprint across airports, hotels, restaurants will be of great significance to WBA member operators and WiFi industry players interested in roaming access in China.”
