ICT leader with expertise in Media technology and R&BD

An energetic and inventive leader with vast experience in global standardization, ICT R&D project and successful commercialization to the market. An outstanding leader achieving 200+ patents and awarding Presidential Recognition for R&D achievements.

Dr. Lee’s area of expertise is in media technology and research & business development (R&BD) in the ICT technology and expansive experience in global standardization, R&D project management, and commercialization.

He is currently Vice President (VP) and Head of Tech. Innovation Group, where he leads the whole ICT R&D strategy and R&BD at SK Telecom, the largest mobile network operator in Korea.

In addition, He is the key leader as a board member on Next Gen. Broadcasting Co. Ltd., which is joint venture(JV) company between SK Telecom and Sinclair, which is the number one TV broadcasting company in US.

He has been leading various ICT R&D projects at SKT and successfully deployed new technologies in the market, including low latency live streaming, personalized recommendation, and immersive AR/VR Optics, etc.

Dr. Lee, 200+ patents holder, has over a decade of experience in the media and wired/wireless telecommunication fields. It has 142 patents in Korea and 62 patents in global countries.

Dr. Lee has been awarded the Presidential Recognition for his outstanding research and development (R&D) achievements in 2016.

He has been actively involved with GSMA(Global System for Mobile Communications Association) since 2019 and NGMN(Next Generation Mobile Networks) since 2012 as a TG(Technology Group) member and a project leader of MCDO (Mobile Contents Delivery Optimization), respectively. Also, he has been involved with MPEG and ITU-T as working group Chair and Rapporteur. He is still actively leading NBMP (Network Based Media Processing) and E-FLUS (Enhancements of Framework for Live Uplink Streaming) at MPEG and 3GPP respectively.

Dr. Lee received his M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea, in 2007 and 2010 respectively.
