The Wireless Broadband Alliance is comprised of members who have come together to achieve a common goal: delivering an outstanding user experience thought next-generation Wi-Fi. We’re very proud to introduce you to these members, and give you a glimpse into their role within the WBA and the Wi-Fi ecosystem.

In this installment, we’re profiling Sprint – Mark Lipford, Director of Global Standards and Ecosystem Development, answered a few questions:

Tell us a little about Sprint, and its role within the Wi-Fi ecosystem.

Wi-Fi is a complementary 4th layer to Sprint’s network (the first three layers being our 1.9GHz, 2.5GHz, and 800MHz spectrum bands). By enabling customers to move more smoothly between Wi-Fi and cellular, customers will have a better mobile experience virtually anywhere, while potentially lowering their cost of data usage.

What do you see as being the hot topics in Wi-Fi over the next 12 months?

Wi-Fi calling, NGH Trials and adoption, and tighter integration with LTE are areas Sprint believes are important to the industry.

Why has being a member of the WBA been beneficial to BSG, and why would you recommend becoming a WBA member to other companies?

Being a member of the WBA enables Sprint to collaborate with other member companies and help shape the evolving Wi-Fi ecosystem.

A membership in the WBA provides deeper insight into all aspects of the Wi-Fi ecosystem and offers the opportunity to directly influence and make an impact on the future direction of Wi-Fi.
