Regional Interest group : India Charter

The objective of the India Chapter is to provide a platform / forum in which the stakeholders of Wi-Fi and unlicensed wireless ecosystem can discuss and address issues that are specific to India or discuss and address the regional angle on global issues, including but not limited to public policy, roaming, Connected City developments, etc.

The priorities of the charter, as proposed by its members and agreed by the WBA Board of Directors, will be coordinated and discussed in regional working groups and at regional WBA Vision Forum events. The Chapter is also responsible for representing WBA views and initiatives at regional institution meetings and events.

Key activities in Phase 1 –

  • Round Table Dialogue between the Indian operators, tech companies and Cities/States in order to facilitate the growth and adoption of Connected/Smart cities by focusing on Unlicensed, Convergence and Public Wi-Fi including Public-Private Partnerships. Meetings to be held once every Quarter.
  • One Conference call with the WBA Global team to understand and discuss about the latest developments in the Global markets, once every two months.
  • Two Training workshops organized by the WBA by getting experts from their respective fields.
  • Public Advocacy – to represent to DOT/TRAI issues related to Unlicensed and Public Wi-Fi in order to remove barriers and facilitate inter-roaming arrangements for Data in the Unlicensed spectrum.
  • Creation of an ecosystem around Wi-Fi – devices, content , services etc
  • One Annual Event
