PROJECT DESCRIPTION

TRENDS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Since 2022, WBA’s RAN Convergence project has addressed the growing need for the seamless onboarding of cellular users into enterprise Wi-Fi networks through automation and enterprise profile integration. This creates opportunities for smarter authentication and identity management solutions, enhancing user experience and security.

A key focus is optimizing 5G and Wi-Fi roaming by pinpointing precise handover points, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and driving innovation in mobility and handover technologies. Exploring ATSSS integration offers potential for dynamic traffic management and efficient network utilization.

Harmonizing Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics across 5G and Wi-Fi networks fosters standardized performance tools, ensuring consistent user experiences. Reducing reliance on device and OS vendors opens the door for more flexible, widely adopted solutions, lowering market entry barriers.

BUSINESS & MARKET BENEFITS

Phase 1 in 2022 established the foundation for P5G and Wi-Fi convergence, focusing on spectrum availability, deployment models, integration, authentication, and ATSSS.

Phase 2 in 2024 advanced solutions for easier onboarding, fast transitions, IP preservation, and RAT optimization.

The upcoming Phase 3 offers significant operational advantages, including an improved user experience through optimized handovers and enhanced network performance. Simplified network architectures and reduced transaction times will lower costs and increase scalability for businesses. Addressing OS and device dependencies will make solutions more versatile, enabling broader market adoption. By aligning with evolving standards, enterprises can adopt cutting-edge technologies, ensuring a long-term competitive advantage in the converging network space.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

  • Deliver a standardized framework for seamless 5G and Wi-Fi integration, enhancing performance metrics and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity.
  • Optimize handovers and reduce transaction times to provide a more reliable and user-friendly network experience.
  • Demonstrate a converged deployment by 2026 to showcase improved Quality of Experience (QoE) and network convergence, driving enterprise adoption.
