Trends and Opportunities

Wi-Fi 7 is designed to use all of this newly available bandwidth, with features including 320 MHz wide channels, true multi-band/multi-radio Layer 2 carrier aggregation, and multi-AP coordination. Chipsets for Wi-Fi 7 have been already available and expected routers will continue to be released in 2023.  IEEE expects board approval by May 2024 with official standardized Wi-Fi 7 devices entering the marketing from 2025 onwards.

WBA champions a global Wi-Fi 6/ 6E program to ensure that industry needs are addressed as Wi-Fi 6 and 5G standards are ratified

Business Benefits

Wi-Fi 6 /6E provides more capacity than all the other Wi-Fi bands put together and delivers connections with speeds equivalent to 5G,  and also supports low-latency levels required for mobile gaming, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) applications, and Industry 4.0 solutions.

When Wi-Fi 7 certified devices enter the market, it will enable the opening of the 6 GHz spectrum band by many more countries, and increase IoT adoption in the market.

This project develops and expands new trials that support Wi-Fi 6 and 6E expansion into new areas in different geographies around the world to prepare for the Wi-Fi 7 era.

Expected Deliverables

  • Conduct trials of Wi-Fi 6/6E infrastructure and services on various scenarios with enterprise and verticals including, manufacturing (IoT Industry 4.0), enterprise, transportation, stadiums, residential (SFU/MDU), cities & rural areas, public venues, etc.;
  • Provide analysis and market data to drive the standardization and unlock the business potentials and convergence in the wireless ecosystem.
