PROJECT DESCRIPTION

TRENDS AND OPPORTUNITIES

The 6 GHz spectrum for outdoor use presents significant opportunities, enabled by a spectrum database solution called the Automatic Frequency Coordinator (AFC). For successful deployment, technical and regulatory frameworks must align with each country’s rules.

Channel availability depends on nearby incumbents, with dense metro areas in the U.S. seeing significant variability block by block. This underscores the need for precise, adaptive AFC systems to optimize spectrum use while preventing interference.

AFC operators will play a pivotal, independent role in ensuring compliance with rules and aligning stakeholder objectives, unlocking the 6 GHz band’s potential for innovation and advanced wireless services.

BUSINESS & MARKET BENEFITS

WBA’s AFC system offers a robust solution aligned with the FCC’s Section 15.407(k) rules and the 6 GHz Report and Order, providing clear business and market advantages. By adhering to regulatory requirements and implementing key elements for accurate AFC calculations, the system ensures efficient and reliable spectrum management.

Key features, such as geolocation capabilities optimize spectrum use, while the system provides Standard Power devices with available frequencies and maximum power levels, enabling seamless unlicensed operations in the U-NII-5 and U-NII-7 bands.

For businesses, the AFC system unlocks opportunities for high-performance outdoor operations, supporting innovation and expanded market applications. This solution enhances connectivity, minimizes interference, and fosters a competitive ecosystem that benefits both service providers and end-users.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

The task group engaging with broader community will:

  • Evaluate AFC Operations: Assess efficiency, functionality, and management of AFC systems.
  • Develop Deployment Roadmap: Create actionable guidelines and a clear implementation roadmap.
  • Plan Trials and Demonstrations: Strategically organize initiatives to test performance and gather feedback.
  • Address Challenges: Identify, document, and resolve operational issues effectively.
  • Formulate Go-to-Market Strategy: Develop a strong market entry strategy and identify growth opportunities.
