Nine in ten Brits (90 per cent) will aim to keep up with goings-on in their working life by checking their business emails whilst on holiday.

That’s according to a new survey from Ipsos and Pullman, the owner of Accor hotels, which signalled a huge opportunity for accommodation providers to edge ahead of the competition by offering free Wi-Fi to their guests.

The researchers sought feedback from 2,252 travellers in order to see just how many people worked on holiday, finding that many could find use for an internet connection during their stays.

As reported by telegraph.co.uk, 86 per cent of Brits admitted to bringing their mobile phone with them on holiday, with 40 per cent taking their laptop.

A total of 73 per cent claimed to use their device for working away from the office, while 82 per cent said they felt obliged to work out of hours, as some may look for an active connection when booking up.

When justifying their reasons for putting in the extra hours, 62 per cent said this was simply part and parcel of working in a role which required a high level of involvement. A total of 28 per cent wanted to show their commitment to the job, while 14 per cent said this was simply common practice at their company.

Cited by thecourier.co.uk, Pullman global marketing senior vice president Xavier Louyot said this trend highlights the need for professionals to “remain connected” to both sides of their life at all times.
