Orange Romania announced its Wi-Fi network is now compatible with Passpoint technology which is making its debut in Romania. The operator said its Wi-Fi network is one of the few networks in Europe to be compatible with Passpoint, a technology that enables end-users to be authenticated automatically without the need;for names or passwords. In addition, this technology ensures a high degree of information security.
Customers who have mobile devices compatible with this technology will connect automatically and securely to any of the operator’s hotspots if they select SSID Orange Mobile Wi-Fi. Customers who do not have devices compatible with Passpoint but which support the EAP-SIM/AKA protocol will be able to connect if they manually select this type of authentication when trying to connect for the first time to the Wi-Fi network. Thereafter, they will connect automatically. Any mobile telephony user in the country, regardless of the network they are using, can connect at no extra cost to any of Orange Romania’s Wi-Fi hotspots for a maximum of two hours. The authentication is made through a portal and the password is received via SMS. Orange customers have unlimited access to the Wi-Fi hotspots through Passpoint technology.
