Linktel Operates the Largest Independent Network of Hotspots in Brazil

STOCKHOLM and SAO PAULO, BRAZIL – September 19, 2013 – Brazilian telecommunications operator Linktel has deployed the Aptilo Service Management Platform™ (SMP) from Aptilo Networks. Aptilo SMP provides a carrier-class Wi-Fi service to enable and manage mobile data services across Linktel’s network of Wi-Fi hotspots.

With more than 2,300 Wi-Fi access points, Linktel operates the largest independent network of hotspots in Brazil. Linktel HotSpots can be found in different venues including 24 malls, 19 airports and a large number of beaches, restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and other outdoor areas.

Through Linktel’s vast portfolio of roaming agreements worldwide (including with 20+ tier 1 mobile operators), mobile subscribers can access the Linktel network from virtually any corner of the globe.

The flexible Aptilo platform meets Linktel’s needs for rapid growth as the company expands its venue footprint and adds more capacity to the network. It includes Aptilo’s Business-to-Business (B2B) functions, authentication, portal and charging features for a carrier-class Wi-Fi service.

With Aptilo, Linktel can easily offer customers innovative services such as hierarchical accounts (e.g., family plans that can connect several devices to one Linktel HotSpot account). Linktel can also offer different levels of services – for example, free Wi-Fi access on beaches, tiered plans in airports, time-limited access in malls etc. – with customized portals for each venue. Aptilo’s platform manages the service and user access, and applies billing and charging solutions.

In the near future, Linktel plans to use the Aptilo platform to enable Wi-Fi offloading.

“With Aptilo’s proven service provider Wi-Fi solution and their unique B2B support we are confident that our Wi-Fi hotspot network can support our continued growth,” said Jonas Trunk, President, Linktel Corporate. “Linktel is committed to providing customers with the very best quality of service. The move to the Aptilo Service Management Platform is key to that commitment.”

“Linktel’s Wi-Fi network is an important piece of infrastructure for Brazil. We are thrilled to be working with them in delivering a truly carrier-class wireless experience to customers,” said Paul Mikkelsen, COO, Aptilo Networks.
