Commuters, tourists and residents will soon be able to get online within the World Trade Center (WTC), thanks to a new multi-year Boingo Wireless deal.
New Jersey and New York’s Port Authority have just signed a Wi-Fi deal with Boingo, which will provide wireless internet access to the WTC for several years, reports istreetresearch.com. Users won’t have to pay a penny to get online either, as the service will be completely free.
The infrastructure used in Boingo’s roll out means that users will be able to access a fast internet connection even when underground.
Boingo’s WTC Wi-Fi hotspots can be found at the hub of the centre itself, a number of retail outlets and PATH station, which connects trains running to and from New Jersey and New York City. It’s estimated that some 200,000 commuters and visitors a year will benefit from the new service. However the transport hub isn’t yet complete, so that figure is only an estimate.
A spokeswoman confirmed that the Wi-Fi service will be unlimited, so people can spend as long as they want and use as much data as they like whilst connected to the network. This is in contrast to the Wi-Fi service available at the Port Authority’s airports, which only lets people log on for a maximum of 30 minutes, reports nydailynews.com.
