Hotel Wi-Fi Test has launched a new browser extension so that people using comparison sites can easily see how fast an internet connection is expected to be before they book.

The browser extension is currently available for anyone running Chrome or Firefox, though it’s unknown whether it will be released for Safari or Internet Explorer users, reports business-cloud.com. When browsing Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia.com and TripAdvisor, the extension will let users know potential Wi-Fi speeds, so they can make an informed decision on where to stay.

Not only does it display the estimated speeds that can be expected, the feature also shows a confidence percentage, which indicates how likely it is that the user will hit these levels. If Wi-Fi speed is the most important hotel factor to the searcher, they can filter their search using the extension to see which hotels offer the best connections, reports thedrum.com.

In a statement, Hotel Wi-Fi Test explained that the plug-in changes its look according to which site the user is on. That way it feels like a native app rather than an awkward add-on.

“The browser extension also provides a quick way to compare the Wi-Fi speed of tested hotels within a particular city,” it added. “With almost 200 hotels tested in New York alone, this is a powerful tool for travellers who value fast and reliable Wi-Fi.”
