Some 76 per cent of hospitality venues believe guests don’t think that Wi-Fi is as important as other facilities or services, a new survey from Netgear shows.

Almost half (43 per cent) of hotels and similar venues also think that customers are happy to put up with a poor or non-existent Wi-Fi connection as long as the overall experience is positive, reports mobiletoday.co.uk. The survey’s results shows just how out of touch these venues are, as the people visiting them feel quite differently.

The majority of business travellers (67 per cent) would not book the same hotel again if it offered a poor Wi-Fi service and a third of holidaymakers feel the same. This is perhaps because many people now feel the need to keep in touch with what’s going on at home, even if they’re on holiday.

Over a fifth (22 per cent) of young professionals aged 24 or under worry that without Wi-Fi, they won’t know what’s happening back in the office. Almost a third (29 per cent) of people from the same age group are more concerned about staying in touch with family members or their friends, reports travelweekly.co.uk.

Not all venues are oblivious to what poor Wi-Fi could do to their reputation, though, as 29 per cent think that their guests might complain if they can’t get online. A further 23 per cent believe that negative online reviews are a likely consequence, but only 37 per cent are aware that their lack of Wi-Fi might stop people from coming back.
