More than a third of Brits take Wi-Fi availability into account when choosing a hotel, the results of a recent study show, with professionals increasingly eager to keep up with work while away.

After questioning 1,000 UK workers about their holiday tech habits, cyber-security firm ESET found that 34 per cent have Wi-Fi near the top of their accommodation checklist, while 44 per cent plan to take their work-enabled smartphones and tablets away with them in 2014.

Although the respondents say they’ll be packing their mobile devices, 36 per cent think that regular email-checking is likely to stress them out during their trip.

ESET UK Security Specialist Mark James was quoted by professionalsecurity.co.uk as saying: “Holidays used to be a time for us to escape the office, relax and spend time with our families, however our survey reveals that in today’s hyper-connected world Brits want to be online and available at all times.

“While in the past holidays used to be a time to break away from everything, today it seems holidays can be ruined if vacationers are not provided with a strong internet-connection.”

Worryingly for businesses, 35 per cent of those questioned said they’re unlikely to check the security credentials of the networks they connect to. More than two thirds also admitted they’ll have corporate information stored on their devices, freshbusinessthinking.com reports.
