The UK is lagging behind the rest of Europe when it comes to offering free Wi-Fi in its hotels, with Manchester failing to deliver what tourists want the most.

According to dailymail.co.uk, a survey from Kayak reveals Manchester has the second worst free hotel Wi-Fi offering in Europe, beaten only by Cologne in Germany. Two other UK cities featured on the list too: Liverpool, which came in ninth, and Birmingham placed tenth.

On average, only 64 per cent of hotels in Manchester offer free Wi-Fi to their guests. However, across the whole of Europe, 90 per cent of hotels have free wi-fi access, reports telegraph.co.uk.

It’s seems the UK hospitality industry has its work cut out in order to keep up with other European countries in terms of offering free Wi-Fi. The best performing cities were Malmö and Gothenburg, both in Sweden. Some 98 per cent of hotels in Malmö have free Wi-Fi access.

Annie Wilson, Kayak’s managing director, says the new data might make customers think twice about where they should book their next hotel stay.

“In an age of mobile phones, laptops and constant connectivity, any savvy traveller should check out whether their hotel offers free Wi-Fi before they check-in,” she notes.
