The Wireless Broadband Alliance is comprised of members who have come together to achieve a common goal: delivering an outstanding user experience thought next-generation Wi-Fi. We’re very proud to introduce you to these members, and give you a glimpse into their role within the WBA and the Wi-Fi ecosystem.

In this edition, we’re profiling BSG Wireless – John Haspil, VP of Wi-Fi Services, was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions.

Tell us a little about BSG Wireless, and its role within the Wi-Fi ecosystem.

BSG Wireless is a subsidiary of BSG, a company which has been doing financial clearing for landline businesses for over 28 years. We entered the wireless business in 2005, focusing mainly on Wi-Fi, interconnection, data clearing and financial clearing services. In 2012, we added connection clients, analytics and directory services to our overall suite of services. This allowed us to provide our customers a full suite of services centered on the customer experience.

What do you see as being the hot topics in Wi-Fi over the next 12 months?

At the baseline, the continuing deployment and growth of NGH (Next Generation Hotspot) networks is going to be important in terms of increased utilization of Wi-Fi networks worldwide. As the NGH networks are growing, we’re seeing increased demand for global roaming solutions. More importantly, we’re also seeing more interest in the new ways operators can actually monetize their networks with value-added services such as Voice over Wi-Fi . Further, by harmonizing and aligning various services, such as Wi-Fi and LTE, and by adding intuitive analytics carriers are developing services which provide the best possible experience for the customer.

Why has being a member of the WBA been beneficial to BSG, and why would you recommend becoming a WBA member to other companies?

Since becoming a member of the WBA, BSG has had the opportunity to take part in many Working Group Sessions, and has co-chaired several of them. Taking part in the NGH Live demonstrations has provided us with key learning and experience and our customers have begun their actual NGH deployments. Our active participation and contributions to the work efforts have allowed us to position ourselves as thought leaders in the industry, and be at the forefront of the new standards that are evolving within the industry. Having a seat at the table is very important to us because it allows us to project our brand and opens up a new channel from a marketing perspective.

By joining the WBA, companies get the opportunity to help shape new standards, which is obviously very beneficial. Additionally, they also get the chance to network with new partners and customers, while simultaneously getting their messages out via different channels.
