Free, unlimited Wi-Fi for internet users will be available for the foreseeable future in Kadikoy, a district of Istanbul, reports hurriyetdailynews.com.

Kadikoy Municipality announced the venture after Kadikoy locals – “who use technology intensely” – expressed their need for the service.

As a result, Mayor Selami Ozturk said he would implement a high-quality connection in the area so locals and visitors can connect their mobile devices to Wi-Fi hotspots.

To access the Wi-Fi, users will have to find the “Kadikoy Wifi” network from their mobile devices and attempt to connect. Users will then be directed to an interface where they must enter their mobile number to gain a password that will allow users to connect fully.

The Municipality announced the ‘bull square’ on the main artery of the Bahariye neighbourhood will gain access to free Wi-Fi. The square – named Altiyol – is an intersection of six streets and represents a popular meeting point for locals and tourists; the addition of free Wi-Fi will only ramp up the area’s popularity.

Away from the square, the next step would to be expand the free Wi-Fi area to parks from the main streets; Yogurtcu Park and Goztepe Ozgurluk Park to name just two priorities, adds hurriyet.com.tr.
