Exhibition and conference centre Manchester Central has improved its free Wi-Fi offerings by upgrading to a one-gigabit service.
This is the second major upgrade this year, as the conference centre expanded its Wi-Fi capabilities in January to cover 100 per cent of the 21,000-square-metre space. At the time, Manchester Central claimed it was the first major venue in the United Kingdom to offer a free Wi-Fi service to all visitors.
According to conference-news.co.uk, the centre underwent a £30-million, three-year redevelopment, which was partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
According to venue officials, the Wi-Fi service has been very popular – with several hundred people using the service at any one time during an event. The one-gigabit upgrade will put the centre ahead of many other venues in terms of bandwidth.
Angie Robinson, chief executive of Manchester Central, said: “When we became the first in the UK to offer free Wi-Fi to all, we were determined to continue to build on our offer.
“As well as being the first to offer free Wi-Fi to all, we also now offer some of the fastest internet in the business,” she added.
Manchestergazette.co.uk says that the next event to be held at the centre will be the Creative Crafts show, held May 2nd – 4th.
