Harrington Square has become the next location in Cape Town to provide its visitors with free Wi-Fi access.
According to iafrica.com, the service went live on October 11th. It comes as part of a collaboration between Cape Town Partnership, Connected Space, District Six Museum, Charly’s Bakery, Woodheads and The Bank.
The Company Gardens and St Andrew’s Square have both been provided with free Wi-Fi in recent months too.
Connected Space has warned potential users that the free Wi-Fi is designed for general browsing and that it is only suitable to those who wish to check their emails or look at social media sites. Those thinking they can conduct high-speed downloads on the network will be disappointed, reports mybroadband.co.za.
In fact, users will be limited to 100MB of data, but extra vouchers will be available at the District Six Museum. However, Connected Space has reassured its users that they will receive decent speeds and a stable connection.
Bulelwa Makalima-Ngewana, Cape Town Partnership CEO, said she hopes other parts of the city will get connected with free Wi-Fi in the future.
“Free wireless is a growing trend in the city, and as a hallmark of many international cities, I hope that this connectivity spreads to make us the most information-accessible city in the country,” she said.
