Telefónica’s new partnership with Korean tech firm Samsung signals the company’s commitment to keeping its enterprise customers protected, according to director of security Oliver Martinez.

On Monday, the Spanish telecoms giant announced that it will soon be making Knox – Samsung’s mobile app security platform – available to its public sector and business customers, techradar.com reports.

Knox was first introduced last year and was designed with Samsung’s own high-end smartphones in mind. Using virtualisation, it can separate and encrypt personal and business data, meaning users aren’t required to keep two devices for security reasons.

Mr Martinez was quoted by telecoms.com as saying: “With Knox, we are now in a position to bring the best mobile security solution for our enterprise, MNC and Public Administration customers who are using Samsung´s devices.”

The move comes as chief information officers (CIOs) across the globe look to adapt to the challenges presented by new, flexible business strategies. Bring your own device (BYOD), for example, has caused concern for many, with employees not always trusted to keep sensitive data on their own handsets.

Samsung Mobile Europe’s vice president of enterprise sales, Rob Orr, also said that his company is looking forward to helping Telefónica meet the needs of its enterprise customers as the convergence of consumer and business technology picks up pace.
