UK residents and visitors in Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent are to receive access to a free Wi-Fi service in January next year.

According to cbronline.com, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and MLL Telecom have entered a partnership to deliver a free Wi-Fi service to the town centre. The first phase is expected to come into effect in January 2014 and a wider rollout will begin a few months down the line.

Dave Pinnington, director of regional networks at MLL Telecom, said the firm aims to work alongside the local community in order to meet their needs effectively.

“Not only will it offer improved connectivity to residents and businesses, but it also opens the doors to visitors to find out more about the region and get online to share their experiences,” he explained. “Many studies put free public W-Fi at the top of tourist wish lists, so we hope this initiative will help enhance the Tunbridge Wells visitor economy.”

For the first three months, users will be able to use the service for free but after that period has ended, users will only have 15 minutes worth of Wi-Fi a day. Those wishing to use the service more often can purchase more time via a pay-as-you-go service, reports techweekeurope.co.uk.

However, there will be permanent free access to visitor resources, such as information on local attractions, shops, events and public services.
