CV Comms Ltd has positioned itself as a leader in providing cost-effective communication solutions/services to mobile network operators. The company currently operates in the UK and Nigeria with plans to expand into other African countries. Their core solutions include co-location (neutral-host) Indoor DAS to improve in-building coverage and Outdoor DAS to improve coverage & capacity in congested markets & traffic hotspots. Recently, they have started deploying Wi-Fi Offload solution as a cost-effective alternative to improve 4G/5G coverage indoors. As a newly-joined member of the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), we caught up with CEO Charles Vinan to learn more about CV Comms. Read our full interview below.
Can you please give us a brief overview of CV Comms?
CV Comms Ltd is a privately owned company that was incorporated in year 2000 in the UK.
In 2002 it established a subsidiary in Cameroon, then in Nigeria in 2004 and subsequently in Ghana and Kenya.
Today the main operating office is in Lagos, Nigeria from where CV Comms has positioned itself as a leader in providing cost-effective solutions/services to Mobile Networks Operators (MNOs) such as MTN and Airtel.
CV Comms was the first company to deploy Tower Mounted Amplifiers (TMA) & Tower Mounted Boosters (TMB) in Sub-Saharan Africa. During the period 2001 to 2010, we deployed
those products to enhance coverage into rural communities across Africa, including Cameroon, Nigeria, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Kenya, etc.
CV Comms deployed the first BTS Hotel Solution (Outdoor DAS) for MTN in 2005 to provide additional capacity in a congested market in Lagos Island.
The success of that project led to the ground-breaking deployment of Outdoor DAS by CV Comms along Third Mainland Bridge (the 2nd longest bridge in Africa at 11.8Km).
In keeping with our pioneering/entrepreneurial spirit, CV Comms was the first company to deploy Co-location (neutral host) Indoor DAS at a shopping mall in Ikeja, Lagos.
CV Comms in partnership with its spin-off business, Extended Networks, engaged in an aggressive deployment of Co-location Indoor & Outdoor DAS for MTN & Airtel over the period 2015 to 2024 and now CV Comms operates/maintain 220 sites for Extended Networks across Nigeria.
Recently, the TCO for Indoor DAS deployments has become too high and CV Comms is in the process of deploying Wi-Fi Offload solution as a cost-effective option to extend 4G/5G coverage for our MNO partners into large buildings and public places.
How is 2026 shaping up for CV Comms? Are there any major announcements, launches or milestones you’d like to share?
We are very excited about 2026 as the MNOs in Nigeria return to investment mode after about 2 years of slow growth due to macro-economic issues in the country.
Our Wi-Fi Offload solution is being introduced to MNOs and ISPs in both Nigeria and the UK and we expect our first deployment in Q3 2026.
Presently, we are undergoing a Wi-Fi Offload PoC with one of the MNOs at a shopping complex in Lagos and we plan to complete by end of May 2026.
What led CV Comms to join the WBA, and what does the company ultimately hope to achieve through its membership?
CV Comms decided to join WBA because of its OpenRoaming ecosystem that we believe offers great business opportunities for us in Nigeria and the UK.
As we aggressively deploy Wi-Fi Offload infrastructure in Nigeria, we hope to benefit from WBA marketing capabilities to enable us reach potential IDPs operating in Africa.
In fact, our limited research shows that presently there is no WBA member offering either IDP or ANP roles in Nigeria or indeed Africa.
Therefore, we hope our WBA membership will enable us to work with other ecosystem partners to expand OpenRoaming in Africa and maximise the business opportunities.
