London, UK, 19 October 2022: The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) today announced  the winners of the 10th WBA Industry Awards, which honors the most significant innovations and achievements from across the Wi-Fi ecosystem. The award winners were announced during the during the WBA’s Wireless Global Congress, which is being staged in Amsterdam, RAI Convention Centre and online between 19th – 20th October 2022. Award submissions were judged by an independent panel of leading analysts and other industry experts.

Tiago Rodrigues, CEO of the Wireless Broadband Alliance, said: “This year’s winners are testament to the integral role Wi-Fi is playing – and will continue to play – in unlocking new connectivity use cases and changing lives for the better. From bridging the digital divide and offering higher capacity and speeds, to keeping fans connected at music festivals and providing round the clock care and support for the elderly and vulnerable. We’d like to congratulate everybody involved, including our panel of judges who had some very difficult decisions to make in light of so many excellent entries.”

  1. Best Wi-Fi Network Operator Award

Winning entry: KT Corporation – KT’s Wi-Fi 6E for everywhere.

“KT remains an early adopter of the latest Wi-Fi innovations for the benefit of its customers. As it delivers connectivity to meet user requirements for non-face-to-face activities in a post-pandemic world, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E have become important parts of its product portfolios across its enterprise, residential and public Wi-Fi services.

  1. Best Wi-Fi Network Technology Award

Winning Entry: Joint submission from Broadcom, Cisco and Meta.

“Much awaited opening up of high-power usage for 6Ghz! Shows innovation in delivering clear Wi-Fi infrastructure improvements without the requirement for new access points. This helps in sustainability, especially in avoiding unnecessary recycling of usable equipment already in field.”

  1. Best In-Home Wi-Fi Network Award

Winning Entry: Joint submission from Ambeent; Millenicom Telekomünikasyon.

“In home Wi-Fi has evolved hugely over the years and thanks to the innovations here is becoming ever more capable, reliable and secure. Great innovation by Ambeent. Easy to implement with solid AI engine and analytics. Loved the quantification of dollars saved for ISPs.”

  1. Best Enterprise Wi-Fi Network Award

Winning Entry: Cisco Systems & Clair Global and HUAWEI

“Cisco and Clair Global have built a Wi-Fi 6 network fully capable of supporting both fan- facing and back-office connectivity requirements at a large multi-day music festival. High levels of OpenRoaming use combine with a high-capacity and high-reliability network to deliver a great customer experience. As one of the festival goers noted. I’m actually amazed… Whatever Cisco's doing, keep doing it.” We couldn’t agree more!

“Huawei also showcased a highly innovative technical solution showcasing that Wi-Fi 6 can be deployed in highly mobile enterprise applications.”

  1. Best Wi-Fi for Social Impact Award

Winning Entry: Cognitive Systems for Caregiver Aware

“As populations age, he emphasis on enabling elderly or vulnerable individuals to stay in their homes while receiving healthcare support will continue to grow. Cognitive System’s Wi-Fi Motion platform is a great way to support caregivers and provide predictive healthcare services into people’s homes in a cost-effective way.”

  1. Best Wi-Fi Innovation Award

Winning Entry: TIP OpenWiFi

“Open Wi-Fi stimulates technical innovation and in itself is a highly innovative business strategy. By disaggregating the Wi-Fi value chain, the objective would be to enhance the supply chain in quality and quantity. We are still in the early days in terms of market adoption. TIP OpenWiFi has the potential to be most disruptive and involves a large cross section of the ecosystem. In that sense, it is unique.”

  1. CTO of the Year Award

Winning Entry: Carlos Cordeiro at Intel Corporation

“Carlos has an impressive track record of innovation with some 400 grated patents and 140 in application. Additionally, Carlos has made significant contributions to the 802.11 standards, and was actively engaged with regulators to push forward changes that facilitated the deployment of Wi-Fi, thereby impacting millions of users.”
