Free Wi-Fi is coming to Australia’s V/Line rail service as part of a $40 million government-backed plan.
According to itwire.com, not only will rail passengers be able to check their emails and browse the internet on their journey, they can also be rest assured they won’t come across any pockets of zero coverage. Part of the $40 million fund will help get rid of any mobile blackspots in the Victoria region.
Premier Denis Napthine says customers will be pleased to know their internet connection will never be interrupted, thanks to the blackspot elimination and Wi-Fi implementation.
“This announcement will be of enormous benefit to thousands of commuters, with more than 13 million passenger trips recorded between these regional centres and Melbourne each year,” he explains.
“Commuters travelling beyond these regional centres will also be able to access more reliable mobile services, with the coalition government also addressing mobile blackspots across Victoria more broadly.”
Travellers will be able to use the free Wi-Fi on services between Melbourne and Geelong, Ballarat, Seymour, Bendigo and Traralgon, reports cnet.com.au.
It’s not only rail passengers that will benefit though, as regional towns in Victoria should also see their mobile coverage improve. Currently, around 40,000 Victorians reside in poor coverage areas.
