Jakarta, June 10, 2013 – PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk (Telkom), a leading internet and multimedia service provider in Indonesia, is going to participate in the Wi-Fi Global Congress, an annual event of the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) held on 10-13 June 2013 in London. This first participation is very important since Telkom has been sucessfully installed 50,000 Wi-Fi access points in Indonesia and accordingly needs to be a part of the global Wi-Fi community.
WBA is an alliance of leading Wi-Fi, mobile and broadband network operators and media players, consisting of a group of world class operators, such as British Telecom, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, KT and many others. Telkom’s participation as a new general member of WBA will be announced in the Wi-Fi Global Congress and delegates will be led by Executive General Manager of Wireless Broadband Division, Pramasaleh Hario Utomo.
“One of our main goals to participate in this global event is to gain and share knowledge as well as experience in telecommunication business and to create solid networking with other highly-reputable international operators,” said Operation Vice President Public Relations Telkom, Arif Prabowo in Jakarta, Tuesday (4/6). He also further said that by establishing solid collaborations with overseas operators, Telkom may extend its business scope and develop new business models, such as roaming cooperations, which will facilitate its international business expansion and reach wider consumer targets.
Currently, Telkom is a leader in broadband industry market in Indonesia with the number of broadband subscribers reaching 19.1 million all over the country. Telkom also supports the government program to provide widely available internet access for the community. “We believe that widely available internet access will open the horizon and give broader opportunities for Indonesian people to access useful information and improve their knowledge. Wi-Fi is a gate to the world. Once you’re connected, the world in your hand,” said Arif.
Through the Indonesia Wi-Fi program, Telkom plans to set up 1 million Wi-Fi access points by the year of 2015. The program focuses on three main targets, which are schools (IndiSchool), districts/cities (IndiSo), and small/medium enterprises (IndiPreneur). The Indonesia Wi-Fi program is part of Telkom masterpiece called “Indonesia Digital Network (IDN)”, which is a key step to realize the company vision: to become a leading Telecommunication, Information, Media, Edutainment & Services (TIMES) player in the region.
