Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL users will now be able to gain free Wi-Fi from O2 hotspots after the two parties struck a deal, reports digitalspy.co.uk.
The phone network owns over 7,000 hotspots across a number of venues, restaurants and retailers across the UK.
Through a new software update, handheld console owners will be granted access to a O2 network as soon as they enter a public space that is being covered by the phone giant’s wireless internet service.
What’s more, the connection is forged automatically and doesn’t charge a penny.
Nintendo gamers can find O2’s wireless hotspots in busy high streets as well as inside chain stores, such as Debenhams, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and Costa Coffee. This is in addition to public venues such as Twickenham, Bluewater and, of course, The O2 arena.
O2 Wi-Fi managing director Gain Franks told thenextweb.com the aim is to cater for gamers that wish to play their titles online, even when they’re on the move.
“With the popularity of online multiplayer gaming continuing to rise, customers are looking for a fast, free accessible Wi-Fi connection when they’re on the move – something that we know is becoming perceived as a right, rather than a privilege.”
