T-Mobile is aiming to close the gap on its main competitors in the Netherlands, following the official launch of its 4G service there.

The new network went lives in went live in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague on Monday 18 November, providing faster mobile broadband for an estimated 100,000 customers.

It is hoped that the move will help the company catch up with Vodafone, which has an estimated 500,000 Dutch customers utilising its 4G services.

Both companies have announced deadlines for nationwide 4G coverage, with T-Mobile hoping to have achieved this by the end of next year.

Thanks to funding from Verizon’s buyout, Vodafone has been able to push forward its deadline for nationwide 4G coverage to April 2015.

Local telecommunications company KPN is expected to beat them both to the finish line though. According to zdnet.com, it aims to achieve nationwide coverage by March of next year.   

T-Mobile has launched a new 10GB data plan, believed to be the first plan of its kind in the Dutch market, in order to celebrate the official launch of its 4G network.   

According to telecompaper.com, some customers on older prepaid mobile broadband plans made be able to access it too, providing they meet certain criteria.
