Passengers using the services of Addison Lee will have access to superfast internet from next year, after the London minicab firm announced plans to make 4G Wi-Fi available in all of its vehicles.

The decision was made after a successful trial was carried out across a small section of the company’s fleet. The connectivity will be offered for free in all 4,800 of the firm’s cars when the work is completed in 2015, itproportal.com reports.

It is thought that the new technology will help Addison Lee, which specialises in offering premium taxi services, to better serve business travellers in the capital. The company says passengers will be able to achieve download and upload speeds as high as 12mbps.

If this proves to be true, it’ll be possible to download a standard television programme in around three minutes, or to download a magazine in approximately 60 seconds.

According to Addison Lee’s CEO, Liam Griffin, the improvement work isn’t over just yet. He was quoted by trustedreviews.com as saying: “Addison Lee has always been the industry leader when it comes to in-car experience.

“The introduction of 4G continues this tradition and there are plenty more investments we will be making to deliver more best-in-class services and experiences for our customers.”
