SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., WBA Wi-Fi Global Congress – November 6, 2012 – Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN) today announced that its Wireless LAN (WLAN) solution has been certified for interoperability by the Wi-Fi Alliance® for their Wi-Fi CERTIFIED PasspointTM Program. Based on technology defined in the Wi-Fi Alliance Hotspot 2.0 specification, the Passpoint program tests mobile devices and infrastructure equipment with the ultimate goal of delivering a single, industry-wide solution for seamless access to Wi-Fi® mobile broadband.

Passpoint-certified mobile devices can automatically discover and connect to Wi-Fi networks powered by Passpoint-certified access points, delivering the true mobile broadband experience that users want. In addition, hotspots that are equipped with Passpoint-certified equipment automatically enable enterprise-grade WPA2™ security.

In parallel with the Wi-Fi Alliance initiatives, the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), which is holding its WBA Wi-Fi Global Congress this week, is developing frameworks for operator policies and roaming agreements between network operators. WBA is conducting trials (called Next Generation Hotspot or NGH) to test broader operator roaming with devices that are Passpoint-certified. Aruba Networks is a member of the WBA, alongside leading global operators and device vendors.

“Achieving Passpoint certification is a major milestone for Aruba and furthers our common, industry goal of ensuring seamless, secure connectivity for hotspot users,” said Keerti Melkote, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), for Aruba Networks. “We are pleased to play a role in the important initiatives led by organizations like the Wi-Fi Alliance and WBA that will streamline the process of connecting to and roaming across Wi-Fi hotspots easily and securely.”

The Aruba 3600 Mobility Controller in conjunction with the AP-105 Access Point have been certified for Passpoint. Aruba will be exhibiting at this week’s WBA Wi-Fi Global Congress, taking place November 6-8 at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco, CA. In addition, Peter Thornycroft, Engineer, Office of the CTO, at Aruba will present on the topic of “Building a Highly Scalable Wi-Fi Solution for Offload and Managed Services” on Tuesday, November 6th at 12:20 PM. Additional information, including an Aruba white paper entitled “Wi-Fi Certified Passpoint Architecture for Public Access”, can be downloaded by clicking here.
