The WBA Captive Portal project team develops this document under the Testing & Interoperability Work Group as the second phase of the Captive Network Portal Standard project released by WBA in 2019.
This Captive Portal Onboarding Evolution white paper provides industry-wide solutions and guidelines to identify captive portal design and deployment issues. It identifies the improvements that have been made, as well as the best practices that can help lead increasing Wi-Fi usage and profits by providing seamless connectivity and better data and security protection for users.
This paper is organized into five main parts:
- Wi-Fi onboarding evolution – overview of Captive Portal Mini Browser (CPMB) evolution
- Onboarding methodologies –analysis of the evolution of onboarding methodologies and authentication methods, with step-by-step illustrations
