Eurostar passengers may soon be able to enjoy Wi-Fi on their cross-country journeys.

The high-speed railway service has agreed a deal with Nomad Digital to ensure all of its passenger trains provide secure Wi-Fi on trips between London, Paris and Brussels.

Computerweekly.com reports that the deal was brokered through Eurostar’s partner Siemens. It is hoped that the service can be launched by 2015. However, a number of lawsuits regarding the tendering process and designs of the service have already led to some delays.

The deal will involve Siemens building ten new trains for Eurostar, allowing the company to eventually serve new destinations in Europe. These destinations have not been decided yet. It is also believed that these new trains will be faster and have a larger capacity than Eurostar’s current offerings.

Haydn Abbott, who is the interim chief executive at Nomad Digital, was thrilled to have finally sewn the deal up.

In an interview with thefonecast.com, he said: “Siemens’ decision to award Nomad the contract to equip Eurostar’s e320 trains with Wi-Fi demonstrates the quality of the Nomad solution as well as the value of its client service. We are delighted and proud to be part of such a prestigious project.”
