In-room Wi-Fi is the biggest thing holidaymakers look out for when choosing a hotel, according to a new survey.

Research from Hotels.com reveals the top ten must have amenities for both hotel rooms and hotels in general, with Wi-Fi featuring highly in both lists.

A complimentary connection is the top priority for hotel guests and ranks higher than basics like a bathroom with a shower, room size and even air conditioning, reports telegraph.co.uk.

Fellow must-have amenities for travellers include free coffee and tea-making facilities, a TV, premium bedding and daily housekeeping.

Wi-Fi places slightly lower in the top priorities for hotels on the whole – its top ranking last year was taken by complimentary breakfast, with an on-site restaurant knocking Wi-Fi down to third. However, Hotels.com believes this is down to the technology maturing and becoming a given for travellers.

Last year’s figures were also boosted by 56 per cent of business travellers voting Wi-Fi as their top amenity, though as more and more accommodation providers install connections in their lobbies, the technology has now become a standard feature within hotels.

As reported by dailymail.co.uk, free parking, a 24-hour front desk, a smoke-free environment and a swimming pool also gain spots on the top overall hotel amenities.
