Prospective entrepreneurs and businesses could soon be looking to settle in Harlem, New York City, as the district is soon to get free, unlimited Wi-Fi access.

According to nbcnew.com, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the network and stated it would prove beneficial to everyone.

“Our new Harlem wireless network brings critical connectivity to residents and visitors, giving them 24/7 access to everything from education materials for kids, to information about Harlem’s rich history and attractions, to everyday needs like paying bills, checking library hours – or even just keeping tabs on the Knicks and Nets,” he said in a press release.

Once the service is launched, Harlem will boast the largest public Wi-Fi network in the whole of the USA, reports theverge.com. The network will cover 95 blocks – providing Wi-Fi to over 80,000 local residents.

The service is being funded by a donation from the Fuhrman Family Foundation and the rollout will take place in three stages. Phase one has already begun and the whole Harlem area should have access to Wi-Fi come May next year.

Mayor Bloomberg, who has long been a supporter of technology in the city, said earlier this year that supporting entrepreneurs is a must should New York wish to stay competitive in the local economy and Wi-Fi is just one way to support them.
