Hilton is set to offer its web-browsing customers a faster Wi-Fi connection at a number of its lavish hotels.
Over the next two months, the group will roll out an improved wireless internet tier, with the hope of persuading customers to pay for an upgraded connection.
Usatoday.com says the service will be made available at all hotels operating under Hilton’s limited service and extended stay brands.
These include the company’s Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites, Home 2 Suites and Hilton Garden Inn.
Reports suggest a session on Hilton’s upgraded connection will cost around $3.95 (£2.40).
This serves as yet another example of monetization of Wi-Fi, which sees a company using a speedy connection to entice their customers into paying for a browsing session.
As reported by hotelchatter.com, last week saw Hilton rival Loews Hotels roll out a “prompt, reliable” wireless connection to customers at all of its hotels.
Hilton boss Josh Weiss says guests have already stated that they would pay for upgraded bandwidth, which means Hilton stands a good chance of achieving success with its plans.
Although it’s not known how long the money will keep them connected, the hotel has confirmed that users will be able to access the connection on up to three devices.
