Travellers can now find out which hotels have the best Wi-Fi speeds thanks a brand new website.
Hotelwifitest.com allows holidaymakers to search for hotels in the city they plan to visit, then ranks them according to the speed of their Wi-Fi. It states what the expected speed is, the range the user could experience and the ‘confidence’ it has in those estimations. Essentially, the percentage of confidence depends on how many speed tests have been taken, how recent they are and whether or not they’ve been taken during different periods.
Holidaymakers can also see whether the Wi-Fi on offer is free or comes at a cost, so they know what to expect before they arrive. All the information regarding Wi-Fi speeds on the site is generated by its own users. People staying in a hotel can conduct a speed test to find out how fast their connection is, after which their results are uploaded to the site, reports forbes.com.
So far, Marriott, Le Meridien, Sheraton and Radisson Blu are some of the top hotel chains named by the website as having the fastest and most reliable Wi-Fi connections, reports dailymail.co.uk.
The site could prove particularly useful to business travellers, who often require a fast internet connection to conduct video conference calls or download large files. Leisure holidaymakers should benefit as well, though, as a recent survey by Skyscanner revealed that 50 per cent of men and 47 per cent of women count decent Wi-Fi as a priority when booking hotels.
