Tourists can now examine the Wi-Fi speed of hotels in which they are planning to stay.

A new website called hotelwifi.com has been created to help tourists ensure they select accommodation which meets their needs for wireless internet services.

The service encourages guests at hotels, B&Bs and hostels to perform a Wi-Fi speed test on the website and then post it to the Foursquare-integrated database. This will allow others to examine the Wi-Fi speed for themselves before booking a room in a certain location.

In a statement published on hotelwifi.com, a spokesperson for the website claims that Wi-Fi speed was becoming more and more important to hotel guests.

They said: “The availability of Wi-Fi has become a major factor when it comes to how many people choose their accommodation, but selecting a hotel for their Wi-Fi is useless when service is spotty, bandwidth limited.

“No-one wants to deal with constant buffering and slow speeds that limit browsing and downloading. This is why we urge you to take our speed test during your next hotel stay.”

The spokesperson said they hoped the service would encourage hotel bosses to improve their Wi-Fi in the future. According to traveldailynews.com, the Wi-Fi test comes complete with an option to tweet the hotel its score.
