Six key airports in Thailand will be able to offer free Wi-Fi to their passengers as part of an overall effort to upgrade services.

Bangkokpost.com says Don Mueang and Chiang Mai rolled out their mobile broadband connections on Sunday (December 1), while Phuket, Ha Yai and Chian Rai will have their own services precisely one month later.

The last of the six, Suvarnabhumi, will gain its Wi-Fi connection on March 1. The delay has been attributed to the sheer size and complexity of the airport, which has created problems for Wi-Fi provider True Connection.

As reported by thaitravelblogs.com, Suvarnabhumi has previously offered Wi-Fi to passengers but the old system only allowed the user to log on for a maximum of 15 minutes.

Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) is the operator of all six sites and is claiming that each connection can link 2,000 users up to the internet at any given time.

The connections will be capable of delivering around 2,000 Mbps and should cover most public areas of the airport.

All passengers have to do is look out of a sign saying “AoT Free WiFi by TrueMove H” and log on to the connection using their passport number or Thai ID.

It’s thought True Connection has spent around 400 million baht to install the Wi-Fi facilities with the hope of improving its brand recognition in the country.
