Starbucks has the best public Wi-Fi in the US, boasting speeds of 9.01 Mbps; faster than the average 4G connection, a new report from OpenSignal reveals.

The average American can only achieve a 4G connection of 6.52 Mbps on their mobile phone. At least 5 Mbps is required just to watch a programme on Netflix in HD, thus showing the importance of decent internet speeds.

Recently, Starbucks decided to switch its internet provider from AT&T to Google. This swap has paid off, as its download speeds have since doubled, according to qz.com.

Although it may not match up to the likes of Starbucks, McDonald’s also offers impressive speeds of 4.18 Mbps, which is faster than the connections provided by Dunkin’ Donuts, Tim Hortons and Panera Bread, reports yahoo.com. Best Buy wasn’t far behind, with average speeds of 3.879 Mbps.

In terms of hotel chains, Hilton came top with impressive speeds of 8.477 Mbps. However, Disney’s theme parks offers a Wi-Fi connection nearly five times faster than the ones found in its hotels, so it’s best for people to upload their holiday photos while they’re still in the Magic Kingdom, rather than waiting until they’re back in their hotel room.

Motel 6 is the hotel chain to avoid, though, as visitors can only receive a 1.29 Mbps in their hotel rooms.
