Telefonica Global Solutions has become the latest member of the Open Visual Communications Consortium (OVCC).

The Spanish phone and broadband provider announced its membership earlier this week, with the aim of delivering a more consistent visual communications service on PCs, smartphones, tablets and the like.

Staff will collaborate with other OVCC members in order to help provide interoperability across a range of video networks and services. According to OVCC president Andrew McFadzen, the ultimate goal of members is to make video “the new voice”.

In an interview with telecomreseller.com, Telefonica product marketing director Gaspar Valdivia claimed that the deal would help deliver a seamless conferencing service from any device in any location.

He explained: “Ranging from immersive telepresence, through room-based videoconferencing, to video-enabled PCs and tablets, users have the ability to access the same services in an ergonomic and user-friendly way.

“Under that strategy, we have integrated managed telepresence with HD videoconferencing services. Our 360 degree Video Collaboration Vision is fully delivered with the integration of video-enabled PCs and tablets.”

According to ft.com, the Spanish operator reported revenues of 14 billion euros earlier this month, as it continues to try and expand its services across Europe.

Telekom Austria Group are another European provider to have joined the OVCC in November.
