Passengers on-board select Thai Airways International (THAI) aircraft can now browse the internet whilst they fly, as the airline has become the first in Thailand to offer on-board Wi-Fi connectivity.
According to bangkokpost.com, THAI also claims it is the fifth airline in all of Asia to offer Wi-Fi to its customers. Nok Air and Thai AirAsia are also planning to launch their own Wi-Fi services, but customers will probably have to wait until the end of the year before they’re made available.
THAI was able to launch its THAI Sky Connect service after securing a licence from the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission back in January. Now, passengers can connect to the internet on 13 of the airline’s aircrafts, including six Airbus 380-800 superjumbos and seven Airbus 330-300 jetliners.
Chokchai Panyayong, THAI’s senior executive vice president of commercial, said passengers can choose to connect with their laptop or a mobile device and can access their email, instant-message people and browse the internet during their flight.
“In the era of digital media, online technology is very popular and essential to everyday life, even during the time spent on-board an airplane,” he explained, reports traveldailymedia.com. “With THAI Sky Connect, passengers are able to remain connected to the internet.”
