Retailer Argos has claimed that its free Wi-Fi service, which is now available at all 735 of its UK stores, will enable it to provide better customer service.

According to techienews.co.uk, Argos customers will be able to view product videos, an extended catalogue of products and enhanced photography using the free service, which is being provided by O2.

However customers don’t need to be an O2 customer to gain access to the Wi-Fi service, they simply have to sign up once for free to use all 9,000 hotspots offered across the country.

John Walden, managing director of Argos, said the service was great news for its customers.

“We have seen strong growth in mobile transactions with sales through mobile devices now accounting for 16 per cent of our total sales,” he explained. “We know there is a strong appetite from our customers to have the convenience of accessing their devices on the move, in a way that suits them.”

Customers can also be sure the Wi-Fi is family-friendly too, as a content filter is attached to O2 Wi-Fi, meaning users can’t access inappropriate content, reports recombu.com.

Sandwich shop Subway also recently signed a deal with O2 Wi-Fi, providing Wi-Fi access to 1,000 stores across the UK. A further 600 stores will receive the service before the end of this year.
